The affluent area has a friendly suburban feel with vast peaceful streets and well-maintained properties. Most homes sit on significantly larger lots than neighboring towns, with the average size being one-third of an acre. The average home size tops 2,500 square feet, and many were built between 1960 and 1980 to accommodate growing families.
 
Newer developments occupy the southern corner of Almaden Valley, and luxurious custom estates are situated along the hillside that borders the exclusive Almaden Golf and Country Club.

Almaden Valley is also home to many upscale dining options. For more than 40 years, La Foret has been offering fine dining to the region with authentic, classic French cuisine. Adega is the only Portuguese restaurant in the country to receive a Michelin star. The elegant menu complements the extensive wine list featuring 500 of the best Portuguese wines.
 
For visitors, The Ranch Almaden is a privately-owned hotel inspired by Old World Italian design, bringing exquisite food and wine to the region with an expansive on-property vineyard.
